Commune de cette partie des Pyrénées-Orientales qu'on nomme le Fenouillèdes, Cassagnes possède de grandes cabanes en pierre sèche que les anciens appelaient barraque (francisation du catalan barraca) et que les modernes appellent « capitelles », désignation empruntée au Languedoc voisin.

The community of Cassagnes – part of an area of the Pyrénées-Orientales that goes under the name of « Le Fenouillèdes » – boasts a number of large drystone huts which used to be called barraques (a Frenchified version of the Catalan word barracas) by the older generation but are now being called « capitelles », a word taken from neighbouring Languedoc.
